Head Coach / Athletic Director
Calgary Seawolves Water Polo Club
We are pleased to announce that Lazar Ceklic has accepted the Head Coach position. It is exciting to have someone from within the club take on this role, as he already has a relationship with our athletes, coaches and families and he will be able to carry on the Mission, Vision and Values of the Calgary Seawolves. Lazar’s passion and enthusiasm for the sport and our club are exceptional.
Lazar has spent 15 years in and around the pool swimming, playing water polo, refereeing and coaching. He began swimming for Tritons when he was 7 years old, placing first overall at many swim-meets, and winning medals at ASSA provincials. At 8 years old he began playing water polo for Farmers, and eventually moved on to play for Mako, Torpedoes, Team Alberta, and the Junior National Team. He spent many summers training with various clubs in Montenegro and was exposed to some of the top water polo cultures in the world. When the NDPL began in 2012, Lazar won gold with Torpedoes and was the youngest player to end the season on the top 10 scorers list. In 2014, he decided to focus on his education and enrolled in an Energy Economics degree at the University of Calgary. When he came back to water polo for the 2018-2019 season, he coached the U12 boys team to develop as players and work together as a team throughout the year which resulted in them capturing gold at Provincials.
Lazar motivates athletes to continuously train and reach their potential, as he believes water-polo is one of the best sports for developing young athletes into strong men and women... Like other sports, water-polo is about problem solving, however it must be done while suspended in the water, swimming long distances, handling a ball, and wrestling with your opponent.
